Soft-Modding the Xbox

Ok, so I've been wanting to hack my xbox ever since i bought it used. Hacking it was really the only justification I could come up with for buying the thing. I certainly didn't want to sent more money Redmond's way for nothing.

I was pretty scared to go the modchip route, even though it seemed pretty safe. Or maybe I was just too lazy to find a reliable vendor. Anyways, when I started hearing about people hacking into the xbox with software exploits, my attention was captured. I made a mental note to try to find the game software that would work with the exploit, and last weekend I finally found a copy. Most of the software is pretty old, so you have to look hard. I found my game at Half Price Books: an original Mech Warrior game, not the re-released version.

I bought the Action Replay from Target, it was $25. This is the easiest way to get the software to the xbox before modding. After modding, you can just use FTP.

Success!!! The only tricky part was mapping the shares. Apparently all the tutorials are aimed at Windows, but I'm using OS X.
